Just two years after the PZero Velo road tires launch, Pirelli enters the MTB market with a dedicated range
Eight dedicated testers carried out more than 450 tests on different surfaces and 40 Data Recording Sessions, taking measurements and mounting on more than 800 prototypes and 7 different rim measurements. Pirelli's Testing Department exceeded over 30,000 km and 95,000 m of total height difference, stressing the new Scorpion MTB's on all types of terrain and in different weather conditions.
Tires for every use and climate condition
All Terrain Bike: with this name was born the first moutain bike in the USA. Over time, the concept of "all terrain" has been shifted in favor of a strong classification of the type of bike. From XC, Enduro, Trail to DH and Free Ride: over the years every bike has required more and more specific products and accessories, even in the tire field. Today, world's attention and trends going back to the origins: simplification. Today's bikes are increasingly capable and efficient, both uphill and downhill, making the traditional classifications obsolete and shifting the focus on the cyclist's riding style instead of the bike he uses. Being in line with its Consumer Centric Approach, Pirelli also focused on the way to ride and on the different types of terrain instead of the mechanical vehicle. The main goal was to create a tire line that could be suitable for the most popular terrain types. It had to be understandable, clear and simple: where simplicity, as often happens when it reaches the essence, contains great complexity of development and high technology.
Each size is produced separately
The great experience acquired by Pirelli in the Motocross field has been invested, in the new MTB tire development: tread patterns, knob shape and height, distance, cross-link and angles. All this has been studied for maximum efficiency on the specific surfaces you're riding on. While designing new tires, the Pirelli's engineers also had to consider many other variables: from the rider's riding style to the most recent developments in terms of profiles and rim sizes. This is why the construction technology of the new Scorpion MTB is different for each tire size. The combination and interaction of different compounds, reinforcements, static and dynamic rubber properties, measurements and patterns for the various terrains: all this was quite a difficult technical challenge for Pirelli but nothing can change their professional approach! They develop all their products with the specific customer needs in mind. The new Scorpion MTB range allows the rider to freely choose tire size that best suits their riding style, without fear of compromising on performance.
- Scorpion M (Mixed terrain-yellow) medium profile, tread spacing for riding quickly and confidently over a mixed variety of terrains, from hard to soft, whether for dry and wet.
- Grip: SmartGrip Compound for uncompromising grip on dry and wet surfaces.
- Handling: designed for an optimal shape on modern wide profile rims.
- Damping: A supple 120 Tpi and TLR casing for added stability and grip at a modern lower pressure riding style.
